60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN
The Battle of Britain Anniversary Air Show will take place from 9-10 September at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, near Cambridge, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the momentous air battle which took place in 1940. Spitfires and Hurricanes will take to the air, evoking Duxford's role as a fighter base during the Battle of Britain.
BIGGIN HILL OPEN DAY
The Biggin Hill Battle of Britain Open Day will be held on 17 September at Biggin Hill Airfield in Kent. There will be flying displays along with ground events, a funfair and children's amusements.
PORTSMOUTH FESTIVAL - 30 Nov to 3 December 2000
Flagship Portsmouth is staging its first ever Festival of Christmas at the Historic Dockyard in the shadow of the great historic ships Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. Visitors to the event will witness a Victorian Street scene with Fagin's tavern, Magic Arcad, Xmas Village, Elves Toy Workshop. There will be 200 street entertainers - from hot chestnut sellers to carol singers, musicians and a Tudor Mask Parade - to help bring the festival to life. There will also be a traditional European market selling a variety of items froim pottery to rocking horses.
Open daily between 30 November and 3 December from 10 a.m. to 20:00 pm.
Admission prices 6 pounds for adults and 4 pounds for children which includes entry to all of the Royal Nay historic ships, Royal Navy Museum and Apprentice Exhibition.

WILTSHIRE STEAM MUSEUM
A new museum celebrating ope of the world's most famous railways has opened in its home town of Swindon, Wilthshire.STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway (GWR) is set in the former railway works and tells the story of the GWR though the eyes of poeple who built it, operated it and travelled on it. Famous locomotives are on display, together with a recreated station platform whilst live actors play key characters in GWR's history including Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
