Ubombo offers spectacular views over the legendary eTshaneni battlefield (Ghost Mountain), scene of the great Zulu Battle of 1884, Sodwana, and game reserves. For the majority of people this is the true Africa, with its wide open spaces, incredible sunsets, huge blue skies, cultural villages and spectacular scenery; it's abundant bird life, wild flowers, aloes, trees and cycads. Hundreds of the unforgettable Acacia Xanthophloea (Fever Tree) with their smooth, yellow green bark, can be seen along the roadside approaching the mountain pass. The Lebombo Mountains are together with the Drakensberg, the last of the basalt lava sheet that covered the whole of kwaZulu Natal 150 million years ago. 90 million years later the Indian Ocean lapped the shores of the Lebombo. Seashells and marine fossils can still be found on its slopes.
