Knavesmire Manor is a late Georgian house built in 1833, standing elevated to command uninterrupted views across the Knavesmire, now York's famous racecourse. The manor, still retaining many original features, has been sympathetically converted and tastefully decorated. The hotel is furnished with many antiques and is equipped with the comforts expected of the more modern hotels of today.
Knavesmire Manor was previously a home of the Rowntree family from the middle of the 19th century until the 1920's, during which time many prominent 20th century figures were entertained, including Prime Minister Lloyd George.
The comfortable accommodation offers a choice of bright south facing motel style
garden rooms on ground floor level or the more traditional rooms of the main
building where each one is different.
The ultimate bedroom being the Queen's Suite with a four poster bed and sunken bath. All of the 20 rooms are with en suite bathrooms and all have colour television, welcome tray, telephone and radio. A baby listening service is also available.
Unwind in the splendor of our health spa in a beautiful tropical conservatory situated in a sunny corner of the walled gardens, boasting a heated pool, whirlpool spa and sauna.
Relax with a drink in the warmth of our well-stocked oak panelled bar or the adjoining splendid Victorian style conservatory.
A variety of imaginative food is enjoyed in the comfort and elegance of "Arnold's Brasserie Restaurant" which overlooks the racecourse, whilst breakfasts are served in the cosy alcoves of our downstairs grillroom.
The hotel has a walled private car park and gardens and is less than a mile away from the York Railway station.
A pleasant walk, following the Royal approach, gives access to the City walls and the old City of York.
