HISTORY & AREA: Originally constructed by The Earl of Breadalbane in the mid 1800's as Estate workers' cottages, these architecturally interesting lodges have been rebuilt inside for self catering.
They are situated on the eastern side of the small village of Acharn, close to Loch Tay, in the countryside characterised by hill farms and sporting estates. There are majestic views in all seasons with the tree cover around Ben Lawers foothills providing breathtaking vistas in Spring and particularly, in late October or early November.
COMFORT & AMENITY: All the lodges are fully equipped and furnished including bed linen, duvets, electric blankets, towels and utensils, with wall to wall carpeting throughout. The pine woodwork blends with the original stonework and colourful furnishings to give a very homely welcome.
ABOUT THE LODGES:
Each lodge has a bath, electric cooker, fridge, washing machine and television. A washing line and tumble drier are available, together with heated drying space for outdoor clothes. Cots and high chairs are available on request.
All the lodges have electric fires and four lodges also enjoy the charm of an open fire with free logs provided. Electricity is coin metered.
All lodges, except Lechkin, have individual enclosed garden areas.
There is ample parking, amenity ground and a safe play space for children adjacent to the lodges. The village shop is in Kenmore and an advance pack of groceries can be ordered for you arrival.
ACTIVITY INFORMATION: Our many returning visitors greatly prize the tranquillity of the lodges' setting and the leisurely nature of the pursuits available locally. A comprehensive pack of information on activities and visitor attractions is provided in your lodge, so there's no need to spend the first two days researching the opportunities.
FISHING: Free access to private moorings and a jetty on Loch Tay is available to guests owning sailing boats or boards, together with the use of the slipway and storage shed. Two boats, complete with outboard engines, life jackets and storm shelters, are available for hire. Trout fishing is available with free permits. Peaceful summer picnics for the family may be taken upon the water. Power boats are not encouraged. Instruction on many other water sports activities, together with rescue services are provided by Loch Tay Sailing School just half a mile away.
GOLF: There are several exceptional golf courses available from rolling parkland to testing 9 holers, all within a half hour drive - and Gleneagles is only just over the hill!
RIDING: Pony trekking may be enjoyed from a number of centres.
WALKING: Unsurpassed opportunities for hill walking can be taken around this Environmentally Sensitive Area. There are numerous designated forest and other routes over the Tay and Tummel valleys, and around the nearby towns of Aberfeldy and Dunkeld.
TOURING: For those less committed to outdoor pursuits Blair Castle, Menzies Castle, Dunkeld Cathedral or Pitlochry Theatre, together with several small distilleries, are all within easy reach. The central position of Loch Tay Lodges permits the leisurely discovery of the widely differing delights of Scotland's east and west coasts - each comfortably achievable within a day's tour by car.
