Dornoch, created a Royal Burgh in 1628, is the County Town of Sutherland. It has a fine Cathedral dating from 1239 and boasts one of the world's top 20 golf courses, set in spectacular scenery. Seven more courses are within a half-hour drive.

The extensive beach of golden sand is clean and ideal for walking. It is never overcrowded, and as it is gently shelving, very safe for bathing.

The town has fine hotels and restaurants, providing good quality and value bar meals and a la carte menus. Facilities apart from golf, include tennis, squash, bowling and fishing. Horse riding, indoor swimming and angling are available locally.

The area is ideal for bird watching, both on the sea shore and at Loch Fleet. The RSPB Reserve at Forsinard makes an ideal day out. The Common Good Land is a haven for wild flowers and nesting birds, and hosts some unusual plant species.

Most Saturday evenings in the summer, the Dornoch Pipe Band plays in the Square.

This peaceful area enjoys the Moray Firth's dry, mild climate and is a good base from which to explore some of Scotland's most impressive scenery.

CLUAINE LODGE, for NON-SMOKERS only please, is a comfortable bungalow built about ten years ago, with double glazing. It is within the owner's garden of about 2 acres, secluded with mature woodland all round, 1.5 miles outside Dornoch to the west. It's very quiet, bird watchers love it.

Accommodation includes: one double (king size bed) and one twin bedded room, sleeping up to four people. A cot can be provided. The living room has an optional open fire, with logs/coal supplied. The kitchen is well equipped and fully fitted with electric cooker, microwave, fridge and automatic washing machine. The bathroom has both a shower cubicle and bath.

Facilities provided include duvets, bedding, blankets and towels. There is a colour television, board games, a wide selection of reading material, radios in the bedrooms and a payphone. (Sorry, no incoming calls)

Oil fired central heating has now been installed, so it's lovely & snug in the cooler months. Electric heating is also provided. All heating and electricity is included in the rental price.
