Pengwern is a charming NON SMOKING, licensed, Four Star country house built of Welsh stone and slate, situated approximately one mile south of Betws-y-coed, off the A 5 road. It stands in two acres of wild woods and overlooks the magnificent Lledr Valley, one of the most beautiful in Wales.

According to local records, a farm dwelling has been on this site since pre 1800 and during the early Victorian era was transformed into a country house.

The house has for many years offered accommodation but has recently undergone sympathetic redecoration to restore it to its former elegance, with the use of Laura Ashley fabrics and Fired Earth's Victorian paint colours, which have been produced in consultation with the Victoria and Albert Museum. The lounge and dining room, both with wood burning stoves, provide warmth and comfort and the lounge is a relaxing area to enjoy complimentary welcome refreshments.

The beamed bedrooms and en suite facilities are beautifully furnished and in order to maintain Pengwern's artistic history, each bedroom has been named after an artist who resided at the house during the mid to late 1800's.

RICHARD GAY SOMERSET ROOM: Pretty double bedroom with views of Lledr Valley from both the bedroom and the en suite bathoom.

GEORGE WIGHTWICK ROOM: Large, elegant twin/kingsize bedroom with Victorian fireplace, views of Lledr Valley, separate dressing area with access to en suite facilities.

MAGGIE PLAS ROOM: Large room with romantic wrought iron four poster bed and en suite bathroom.

Betws-y-coed is a picturesque village in the Snowdonia National Park, surrounded by woodlands and forests in an area of outstanding natural beauty and where rivers Conwy, Llugwy and Lledr meet.

The spectacular Swallow Falls and Conwy Falls are nearby. The busy village, whilst retaining its rural charm, offers excellent restaurants and shopping facilities ranging from souvenirs, art, crafts, speciality foods, walking and climbing equipment. The area appeals especially to walkers, climbers, naturalists, photographers, artists and anglers. There is a nine hole golf course with an additional six courses within thirty to forty minutes drive.

Betws-y-coed is an ideal touring base for seeing the Snowdonia National Park with its mountains, ancient forts and castles and the majestic coastline with its fine sandy beaches.

Marilyn Penwill, who trained at the AGA International Cookery School in South West France, provides a cooked Welsh breakfast, using local produce. Also offered is a selection of locally produced yoghurts, preserves and home made fruit compote.
