Welcome to WESTFIELD. The Minchins - David, June and Christopher - have made their home at Westfield for the past 10 years. During that time WESTFIELD has evolved into the very best kind of Guesthouse.
This large country house was built over 100 years ago for a well-to-do Grocer and remained in the same family for the first 50 years. WESTFIELD is wonderfully spacious and the sunlight streams into delightful rooms, adding to a sense of wellbeing that so many of our guest comment upon.
WESTFIELD has the village of Bellingham on one side and the open valley on the other. We have glorious views to the west and south and are approached by a drive, lined with mature trees. Bellingham is the hub of the North Tyne valley and is the ideal spot for every kind of holiday or business trip. We are 5 miles from the main A68 to Scotland, 45 minutes from Newcastle and 30 minutes from Hexham.
Do you tire of gimmicks, pretentions and exagerated promises? well, we have only one small promise - absolutely no gimmicks or pretentions, just genuine hospitality with space, peace, good food and a comfortable bed at the end of the day.
David is a mine of information to help you in planning your days, be it walking, cycling, fishing, water sports, riding, sight-seeing or just generally mooching about.
The glorious Northumbrian Countryside needs no advocate - is your taste for lakeside and forest, shoreline and seascape or rolling moors and wooded valleys? - well it is all here with the added advantage of almost empty roads
The deep armchairs in the front lounge bay-window catch the sunshine - the perfect place for a cup of tea, snooze or reading the papers, but if the weather is kind- have a deckchair in the garden instead - weeding not obligatory, (but greatly appreciated if you feel the need).
Each of our bedrooms is individually and imaginatively decorated and furnished. They have the touches that make staying away from home pleasurable and comfortable. Soft pillows, warm duvets, hot water-bottles for cold toes, remote control for the television and of course biscuits to munch with the tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
ROOM ONE: A large family ensuite room facing the front garden. Spacious enough for 2/4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children, plus cot. We are well equipped for children. Those sharing their parents room are charged at a reduced rate, whilst those under 2 years of age are free.
ROOM FOUR: A west-facing en suite room, with glorious uninterrupted views - especially at sunset, furnished in old pine. Medieval style drapes and half tester beds.
ROOM FIVE: An east-facing room with private bathroom with an old fashioned brass bedstead. This one is for you if you like the early morning sun.
ROOM SIX: A twin bedded en suite room - not large but extremely comfortable.
ROOM SEVEN: A ground floor double en suite room. A genuine Edwardian suite graces this charming room. Complete with a glorious four-poster bed.
David is the breakfast cook - his porridge with raspberries is something else - pretty good at full English breakfast too. We are always happy to cater for individual preferences.
June comes into her own in the evenings. Dinner at Westfields is a relaxed and sociable occasion and should you dine you will enjoy a varied selection of traditional well cooked meals. Her feelings about food are of the taste good variety. No one ever leaves the table feeling a little hungry. We now have a licence and provide a modest selection of wine to enjoy with your meal.
So..... why not join the many who, once they have found us - return again and again.
HOUSE PARTIES: Why not come with a group of family and friends and take advantage of our special rates and arrangements (up to 12 people).
Also available: Packed lunches * early breakfasts * drying facilities * safe storage for cycles * iron & hairdryer * cot & highchair *
Well behaved dogs can be accommodated by arrangement. Kindly note we are a NON SMOKING establishment.
