Hallwood Farm is a 220 acre, family run, mixed farm in the heart of the Weald of Kent.
The Oast, dating back in part from the 17th century, was originally a farm building for drying hops. In 1990, when hop growing in the area declined, the Oast was converted into a farmhouse for the Wickham family.
The Oast is peacefully situated overlooking the farmyard at the end of a long private farm lane. Guests are welcome to explore the sheep pastures and fruit orchards of the farm with direct access for the more serious walker into neighbouring Bedgebury Forest and Pinetum.
The two beamed guest bedrooms (one twin and one double), offer spacious and comfortable accommodation. They have en suite bathrooms, colour television and well stocked tea and coffee tables, well stocked with plenty of beverages. Both rooms have independently operated heating and provide perfect places to sit and relax after a busy day sightseeing.
A hearty breakfast is served in the sunny dining room and includes fresh fruit, home made preserves and a wide menu.
The whole house is a non smoking area and provides a comfortable base from which to explore the area with its wealth of historic buildings, beautiful gardens and picturesque villages. Ample private parking in the farmyard.
Cranbrook is a typical small Wealden town. It boasts a windmill, magnificent church, museum, several pubs - our recommendation for good food is the Windmill Inn - and many interesting shops.
There are several National Trust properties locally, including Sissinghurst Gardens, Bodiam Castle, Knole and Penshurst Place. The coastal town of Rye, with its cobbled streets is well worth a visit and Royal Tunbridge Wells is excellent for shopping or sight seeing.
The Oast is within easy distance of the ferry, airports and Channel Tunnel. A day trip to France is an outing with a difference and many of our guests enjoy some time in London (one hour by train) without the expense of noisy city hotels.
Gatwick and Heathrow Airports are within a convenient distance.
Come and stay on this traditional Kent farm and experience the best of B&B!
