Built almost 150 years ago, PAYNES PLACE BARN has recently been converted into a large family house. There are three double/twin bedrooms available to let all with en suite facilities, one of which is on the ground floor. This ground floor accommodation is in fact, an apartment with its own separate front entrance door, sitting room and kitchen area, twin bedded bedroom and en suite bathroom.

The house is situated on a hillside to the west of Shaftesbury, overlooking open countryside and offering panoramic views of the Blackmore Vale, yet only half a mile from the town centre. There is a large garden and ample car parking space.

Shaftesbury itself is an ancient Saxon Hilltop town, steeped in history, with much to offer the tourist including, of course, the famous GOLD HILL of "Hovis" fame. For those who prefer to linger awhile, Shaftesbury offers the ideal centre from which to tour Dorset and the surrounding counties. Shaston (Shaftesbury) appears in many of Thomas Hardy's works and therefore we are well situated for visiting the historic places and buildings as portrayed in the novels. During the 2nd World War this area was well known to Commonwealth & US Servicemen who served at Zeals, Andover, Yeovilton and Boscombe Down.

Bath, Bournemouth, the Dorset coastline and Salisbury are all less than an hour by car, whilst Longleat, Stourhead Gardens and Stonehenge are even closer.

You may be sure of a warm welcome at Paynes Place Barn, but kindly note that we are a strickly NON SMOKING establishment.
