Originally built in 1877 for one of the many "Whisky Barons" resident in Campbeltown at that time, the Ardshiel Hotel is now a comfortable, family run hotel offering the standards which today's discerning business and tourist clientele deservedly feel entitled to expect.
All the attractively furnished bedrooms, some of which are en suite, have colour television, tea/coffee makers and direct dial telephone. The restaurant with its open outlook over the delightful garden offers fine Scottish fayre - excellent home cooking using local produce, emphasising seafoods and game.
Children of all ages are most welcome and are catered for with their own special menu.
Nearby is the comfortable lounge with its open fire and cosy bar offering a superb range of malt whiskies. All this along with a friendly helpful staff helps to create an ambience of its own.
To reach Campbeltown, the drive from Glasgow through Argyll and down the Kintyre peninsula lends itself to impressive scenery from beautiful Loch Lomond, to the views of Arran, Gigha, Islay and Jura.
The new ferry service from Campbeltown to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland offers opportunities for day trips to the Causeway Coast. Operating between Easter and October.
Golf is available on the championship course nearby at Machrihanish. There is also an 18 hole course at Southend and a 9 hole course at Carradale and on the Island of Gigha.
Other activities in the area include bowling, tennis, sailing, hill walking, diving, bird watching and fishing.
CHARGES: All charges are in UK pounds.
Prices are per person, per night and are inclusive of VAT and full Scottish breakfast.
