Wharfdale, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Burnsall is one of the few totally unspoilt villages left in the whole of the country, remaining much the same as it has been for centuries and with a population of just 90 folk!

The great oxbow of the River Wharfe curves its way sleepily under the magnificent five arch bridge and on through the village - which nestles cosily below Burnsall Fell. We have private fishing on our stretch of the Wharfe which is available to residents, and sell tickets, in season, for a further seven miles of Trout and Grayling.

The whole area is a walkers paradise with the Dales Way running along our riverbank. There are many walks which start literally from our doorstep and hundreds more in the surrounding countryside.

Situated in the geographical centre of the country, The Lion makes an ideal base for business travellers, campanies using our conference facilities, and for many guests who find the location ideally suited as a base for a touring holiday. The Lake District, east and west coasts, North Yorkshire Moors, York and Harrowgate, together with many stately homes, castles and museums are all within easy reach.

All our bedrooms are individually designed and furnished - successfully combining ancient and modern. Gleaming bathrooms, Victorian brass beds, beamed ceilings and antique furniture. Most of the rooms also offer wonderful views to the river and fells beyond.

Our cosy, chintzy sitting rooms is the ideal place to relax - with apertifs before dinner, with coffee afterwards, or just with a good book in front of the roaring log fire. Our wedding licence allows us to hold small ceremonies in the sitting room.

The recently refurbished Terrace Room is ideal for both private or business dinners or celebration parties. The French windows lead directly onto the terrace and lawns by the river.

The main bar, traditionally panelled and floored in Oak by local craftsmen, is a popular eating and meeting place for villagers and guests alike. A bar/brasserie menu is available each evening.

The mullion windowed dining room, looks onto the village green and to the river and fells beyond. We offer imaginative, seasonally changing menus, using only the finest of ingredients, brought in daily from local farms. Dinner consists of an extensive Table d'hote menu which is served each evening in our AA Rosetted Restaurant.
