The Redesdale Arms is an old coaching inn only twelve miles from the England/Scotland border, on the main A68 road just after the junction with the A696. It is not only a natural stop on the route to and from Scotland (Edinburgh 71 miles) but an ideal base for a touring holiday.

Situated in the beautiful Rede Valley, part of the Northumbrian National Park, it is on the edge of the giant Redesdale/Kielder Forest complex. Beautiful forest and moorland walks can be enjoyed summer and winter. We can offer the sportsman/woman fishing on our own stretch of water on the River Rede. We can also supply our own quality horses for fox hunting with any of the local packs.

For motoring we are centrally located for visiting the fabulous Northumbrian coastline, the historic Northumbrian castles and the Cheviot hills. The Scottish border areas immortalised by Walter Scott are just over half an hour away, and the Roman Wall country and Housesteads Camp are just a little more. The city of Newcastle upon Tyne is an easy hour's drive; historic county towns such as Hexham, Corbridge Rothbury, Alnwick and Kelso less. The superb indoor shopping centre, Eldon Square and the Metro Centre are only an hour's drive. Visit Alnwick for the Castle & Water Garde.

The Redesdale Arms, known locally as "The First and Last" (for many years it was the first or last hotel in England), has just been rebuilt and refurbished in 1995 after a devasting fire in August 1993. We have tried to retain as much as possible of the old exterior. The hotel is personally run by its proprietors Hilda and Johnny Wright and offers country hospitality at its very best.

Our kitchen uses the very best meats, seasonal vegetables and special sauces using wines and spirits - giving the choice of both good country foods and our more exotic specialities. We are recommended in the Vegetarian Good Food Guide and there is a special inexpensive children's menu available. Every Sunday lunch time we have a carvery with a choice of four roast joints, followed by delicious home-made deserts to choose from.

Our ten bedrooms all en suite and decorated in a delightful cottage style, have colour television, direct dial telephones, tea and coffee making facilities, trouser press and hairdryer. We have one four poster bedroom for honeymoons or just a special treat, including our yummy home-made biscuits.

We also have a bedroom for the disabled, complete with a special bathroom and a chair lift from the first floor.
