A TOUCH OF MAGIC ...... This spacious house has been built in the traditional style. However, it has been designed for the comfort of guests, including full central heating and double glazing throughout.
Situated on the Strond/Borrosdale road, this secluded guest house has the hills on one side and the sea on the other, with the nearest neighbours being half a mile on either side.
A days round trip by car or bus, will take you to either: The southern tip of South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist OR Beyond the Callanish Stones and Stornoway to the most northerly point of Lewis. Thus making Carminish House the ideal central point to explore the bulk of the Western Isles.
ACCOMMODATION ...... one double room en suite * two twin rooms en suite * dining room * residents lounge - smoking * residents lounge - non smoking * both lounges have satellite television and panoramic views over Carminish Islands and the Sound of Harris * payphone * gardens and private car park *
DINING ROOM ...... A la carte breakfast: In addition to the familiar full Scottish breakfast fayre, there is a choice of three fish dishes, and various Scottish puddings either grilled or fried.
Table d'hote dinner: This excellent high quality five course meal will satisfy the healthiest of appetites and tantalize the palate.
HARRIS ...... Harris is the southern half of what is known as the 'Long Island', the northern half being Lewis. North Harris is mountainous, with An Clisham its highest point, at 799m (2621feet).
The eastern seaboard is rugged and contrasts sharply with the fertile south-western shores on which the Atlantic waters have formed a great many superb beaches, some of which stretch for miles.
This south-western area is a haven for bird-watchers and walkers. The local lochs with their salmon and trout fishing are a paradise for fishermen. A local boat is available for hire, for fishing/sightseeing or to land on an uninhabited island, which you can explore at your leisure.
Carminish Guest House is ideally situated to indulge these pursuits. We hope you will come and enjoy 'a touch of Carminish Magic' in this family business run by your hosts Mary and Alex Borthwick.
