Fox Hole Farm is a beautiful and secluded 18th century woodcutters cottage, nestling in over 40 acres of its own rolling, lush East Sussex land, and further surrounded by a thousand acres of tree - covered forestry commission. The setting offers complete peace and tranquility, with not another house visible and only the birds, foxes and deer to keep you company. Even so it is close to many interesting and historic towns and sites and is easily accessible from London or the Channel Tunnel.
THE ACCOMMODATION: The farmhouse retains many of its original features and is heavily beamed, with a large inglenook fireplace featuring a woodburning stove.
It has been carefully converted to offer three traditionally furnished and well appointed, double rooms all with en suite bathrooms, television and tea/coffee making facilities.
Downstairs is a cosy dining/sitting room where you can plan the days activities or just fall asleep in front of the fire.
The farmhouse has a large country garden containing many species of flower, shrub and tree and a small pond - home to some moorhens.
The remaining farmland is open to the guests to wander as they wish as it is the Forestry Commission land which contains a profusion of idyllic bridleways and paths. Maps for these are available from the farmhouse.
FOOD AT FOX HOLE: With the room comes a generous, three course, cooked breakfast. A formal dinner is not available, but a range of simple dishes are available in the evening by arrangement, to ensure you won't go hungry.
RESTAURANTS AND PUBS: There are several places to eat and drink within 10 minutes drive. Please ask us if you need any help in deciding where to go.
ANIMALS ON THE FARM: We have our own dogs and chickens and there are various other wild and farm animals around all the time, so you are welcome to bring your own dogs as long as they are good tempered, kept under control.
FURTHER AFIELD: Although totally secluded, Foxhole is only 1.5 miles from Battle with its Abbey and the site of the Battle of Hastings - the seaside resort of Hastings is a further 9 miles. Along the coast is the beautiful and historical town of Rye. To the north and half an hour's drive away, is Royal Tunbridge Wells with its famous 'Pantiles', Herstmonceux, Glyndebourne, Lewes and Brighton are all close by. There are at least a dozen historic houses and beautiful gardens to visit within 20 minutes drive.
NO SMOKING in the farmhouse please.
