Knowlton, the hamlets of Rowling and Tickenhurst, lie in quiet countryside, nine miles south-east of Canterbury and five miles from Sandwich and the coast. Sheep, cattle, horses and arable farming occupy the land of the estate.

There are shops in the villages of Eastry (2miles), Wingham (3miles), and Goodnestone (1 mile). Royal St Georges and Princes are championship golf courses at Sandwich Bay, which also offers a sandy beach. Dover, Deal, Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs are renowned for their seaside seagoing activities and have many buildings of historic interest. In addition to its beautiful Cathedral, Canterbury has a wealth of historic buildings, excellent museums, theatre, a modern University and Kent County Cricket Ground.

Public transport is very limited and visitors are advised that it is essential to have their own transport. There is a regular train service to Canterbury, London(Victoria) and Dover. Cross channel services by sea leave from Dover, Ramsgate and Folkestone, which also provides the terminal for the Channel Tunnel.

The houses and cottages are all modernised, centrally heated, attractively decorated, well equipped and fully furnished. All are provided with colour television. Linen can be hired, except in the Dower House where this is included. Bookings are normally from Saturday, except the Dower House which is Friday.
