THE HOUSE
The Old Vicarage is a late Victorian property which has been tastefully converted to a cosy Guest House. Little has altered inside or out - doors, windows, wooden shutters and oak staircase are all original, as are the fireplaces upstairs. The house is set in an acre of gently sloping informal gardens.
THE ACCOMMODATION
All bedroom are well furnished and have full en suite facilities, heating, tea/coffee tray and colour television.
There is a lounge with a library of over 1000 books and maps for guests to borrow with many on the Mid Wales countryside and area. A log fire is lit in the lounge on colder evenings.
The Dining room has separate tables and is fully licensed. We offer a varied menu and serve an excellent breakfast.
Packed lunches are available to order.
Pets are always welcome at The Old Vicarage and as we are situated in a cul-de-sac with no passing traffic, there are plenty of safe dog walking areas on the doorstep.
Tea and home made cakes are available all day either in the lounge or in the garden on the Vicarage lawn.
LLANGURIG
Llangurig at 1000 feet above sea level is reputed to be the highest village in Wales. It is the first village on the River Wye which rises, with the Severn, in the Plynlimon hills some six miles away. There is a popular walk to the source of both rivers and the view from the top of Plynlimon at 2465 feet is outstanding.
Llangurig is in the exact centre of Wales, being equidistant from Cardiff and Llundudno and only 25 miles from the coast. It is an ideal base from which to explore Central Wales or even further afield, as one hour by car, in either direction, brings the visitor to the Brecon or Snowdonia National Parks.
MID WALES
Mid Wales is one of the last unspoilt areas in Britain, justly famed for its beauty and diversity - a country of rugged moorland, ancient woods, mountain streams, hidden waterfalls and the romantic charm of the famous Lakeland areas.
We do not suffer from the visitor pressure which inflicts other scenic areas, allowing walks on uncrowded paths to forgotten valleys and little frequented mountain pools or along historic tracks of monks and drovers into the heart of the Welsh hills. Sheep farms dominate the landsacape and the pace of life is unhurried.
Mid Wales is also famous for its wildlife; being the home of the Red Kite and other birds of prey. Kites and Buzzards frequently fly over the Old Vicarage. The Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire Wildlife Trusts and the RSPB manage numerous sites which are all open to the general public, and in the Elan Valley (the Lakeland of Wales), we are fortunate in having a water authority sympathetic to nature conservation.
For the visitor who preferes to tour around by car there are numerous landmarks to see and explore. Powys and Harlech castles, the narrow gauge railways of Mid Wales, the Centre for Alternative Technology, Devils Bridge, Llywernog Silver-lead mine and the wild coastline of Cardigan Bay with its broad estuaries. No other part of the UK has such diversity within its area.
We look forward to welcoming you at The Old Vicarage.
