Green Gables is a large, characterful Edwardian house, set back and secluded
from the road by trees and shrubs.
Built 80 years ago for a local merchant, this solid but elegant house has retained the comfortable appearance and atmosphere of that first owner,
It lies just over one mile from the city centre. Off street parking is guaranteed in the ample screened car park. Frequent buses leave for the city from a stop 30 yards away. Alternatively, you can reach the centre by taking a fine walk along the River Thames, with splendid views across the famous Christ Church Meadows.
The enjoyment of a full English breakfast (with real coffee) is enhanced by the friendly atmosphere of pleasant dining room, overlooking the mature garden.
Rooms are bright, spacious and pleasantly furnished. All rooms have direct line
telephone, remote control colour television, beverage tray and a selection of
paperbacks to take away. The majority have ensuite shower and toilets. Two rooms
are on the ground floor and one has been adapted for disabled people, with ramp
to front door, no internal steps and adapted bathroom.
Green Gables is run by resident proprietors, Parvesh and Narinder Bhella. They can provide detailed advice on restaurants and the locality, and present guests with a complimentary personal guide to Oxford. This offers pricise information and itineries from half a day to three full days.
