We are situated at the end of Watchbell Street - so named because in bygone
days, a bell that used to hang in a Watch Tower at the end of the street, was
rung when the town was threatened, usually from raids by the French.

The Hope Anchor dates back to the 17th Century and is perched on top of the hill
that dominates Rye.

We have 15 comfortable bedrooms (9 with en-suite, and 2 with four-poster beds).
Most have enchanting views of the surrounding countryside, with Romney Marsh and
the sea to the east, and the ancient town of Winchelsea to the west.

Rye is also an ancient town that caters for many tastes - artists can be seen
with their easels etc. putting on to canvas the beautiful old houses and cobbled
streets. Antique and art collectors are in their element browsing the antique
and bric-a-brac shops. Boating and fishing enthusiasts can stroll along the
Strand Quay that could tell a few salty stories. For the sports inclined person
there is a new sports centre and tennis and squash club plus several good golf
clubs in the area.

Our comfortable bar, with it's panoramic view, is open for normal licensing
hours. We offer an extensive bar meal (between 12 pm - 2 pm daily) served in the
lounges and restaurant areas. our evening "a la carte" and "table d'hote" menus
are served in our very special pleasant restaurant where we endeavour to offer
fresh local fish whenever possible.

Traditional lunch is served every Sunday from 12 noon, although it is advisable
to book in advance as the restaurant is open to non-residents and is very
popular. Special diets can be accomodated with prior notice.
