The HOUSE
Situated in quiet, rural surroundings, overlooking the open pastures of Lords Plain on the edge of the Lake District National Park, "Underhill" is a traditional Westmorland Longhouse, dating back to the 17th Century and is beleived to be the oldest house in the village. With its stone walls and heavy timbers, this Grade II listed building, set in almost an acre of land, is the perfect base for a holiday exploring England's finest lake and mountain scenery.
The ACCOMMODATION
Primarily intended for a couple, the cottage will actually sleep four persons but should be considered unsuitable for two couples who wish to remain friends.The tastefully furnished and well equipped accomodation comprises a large living room with dining area, featuring oriental rugs on the insulated flagstones, colour television, video and mini CD system. This airy living area also has a walk-in cupboard, pine dining furniture and a quality, interior sprung convertible settee providing a comfortable second double bed. An enclosed staircase leads to the fully carpeted galleried sleeping area with double bed, dressing table and wardrobe and from the window there are lovely long distance views across the Lyth Valley. The decorations draw their character from the building itself and the limestone fireplace, with its wood-burning stove, variable lighting, framed pictures and homely accessories contribute to the welcoming atmosphere.
The compact kitchen is equipped with everything you will require for your stay, including full size cooker, refrigerator with frozen food compartment, microwave, automatic washing machine and a range of pine cupboards. The fully tiled bathroom with toilet has a wall heater, shower attachment and shaver point and towels are provided. Heating is by night storage heaters with a convenient gas fire and both are included in the price, as is the first bag of logs for the open fire. Outside, there is ample parking space and the garden which faces south and west has furniture, barbecue and clothes line.
The VILLAGE of LEVENS
Lying at the foot of the Lyth Valley, on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, Levens occupies the southern extremity of a long ridge of limestone which runs down from west of Kendal to the edge of a wide plain, once covered by the sea. It is a quiet, friendly community with its own Inn, Post Office, General Store and Churches. The village regularly wins South Lakeland's 'best kept village' competition and for three out of the last four years has been voted the best kept village our of the whole of Cumbria. The main routes to all parts of the Lake District intersect nearby, making Levens the perfect base for exploring the superb scenery of the English Lakes.
