Plevna House is a stone built, double fronted house of typically rugged Northumbrian design, sitting in the rolling hills of the border country, surrounded by open countryside and with magnificent views, especially north to Cheviot. The original part of the house is over two hundred and fifty years old and was reputed to have been a drinking den - it still has a cellar. Even the more recent addition to the front dates back to the early eighteen hundreds. Many original features remain and though the house has been carefully updated the Victorian fireplaces and old planked and panelled doors help to retain a spacious, restful charm - even if we say so ourselves!

Each of our two double guest rooms has its own en suite shower room, shaver point, central heating, colour television, radio and hot drinks facility. For your convenience we also offer:

There is a comfortable lounge with television, stereo and a selection of books, videos and games. Meals are taken in the dining room. Both rooms have open fires, making them particularly cosy in the winter months.

SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE HOUSE.

A full English or continental breakfast is offered to give you a good start to the day and an evening meal too, if required. All of our meals are prepared from fresh local produce wherever possible, with an eye to present concerns for healthy eating. Vegetarian fare is always available and we endeavour to cater for other special diets on request.

If you wish to eat out there is an excellent choice of local pubs and hotels, some within walking distance, which serve bar and restaurant meals at reasonable prices.

We are ideally placed as a centre for exploring the whole of the region. The castles of the coast, the Scottish borders, Hadrian's Wall, the centres of early christianity - Holy Island, Jarrow and Durham, the industrial museums - Beamish and Killhope, the market towns and country and coastal villages and the popular National Trust Properties Wallington Hall and Cragside, all provide an abundance to see and do. Kielder Water is within easy reach for water sports, walking, fishing, pony trekking and mountain biking. If it's scenery you're after we have some of the best, the Roman Wall country, the Cheviot Hills and a coastline second to none.

If you tire of the peace and quiet of the open spaces you can always seek the hustle and bustle of the crowded streets and shopping malls of Newcastle and the Metro centre.

The local area is rich in border history, with ample evidence of Roman occupation, the early days of christianity and the feuding Border Reivers literally minutes from our door.

Plevna House is situated to the south of West Woodburn village, on the A68 heading north to Scotland and south to everywhere else.

We have no facilities for pets.
